Two days ago I made the first step on my road to the real world! I put my two-weeks notice in at my part-time job so I could start concentrating on internships and graduating. Well, this did not go over so well at work. Apparently they were about to promote me right after I had put my notice in. But I am that type of person that when I get a feeling, I stick to it and I had a feeling that I just wasn't meant to work there anymore.
Now that I am part-time jobless, I decided it was a good time to update the good old resume. A day later and major headache, I had a rough draft of my new resume ready and I was feeling pretty good about myself and my accomplishments in life. So I decided to venture out to an event one of the organizations I belong to was hosting.
The FPRA (Florida Public Relations Association) student chapter at FGCU had a panelist of professionals from the real world of PR come and answer our questions. I was super-excited that there was going to be a wedding consultant on the panel and I mainly came for that reason. The panelist consisted of the wedding consultant who owned her own business, two employees from Gulfshore magazine (the marketing director and the Editor), as well as a marketing professional from Saks 5th Ave. They talked about internships and how they got theirs and where they were at. They spoke to us about not backing down when told you did something wrong. They even told us about internship opportunities their companies had available. I raced to the front to pick up business cards and spoke with each of the panelists to get a feel for them and if I was interested in applying for some of the internships they offered. Well- OF COURSE I WAS!!!!
In the next couple days I will send off my resume to them, cross my fingers that one of them loves me and my accomplishments as much as I do and calls me back for an interview!!!
In the meantime I will be busy planning my friend Brianne's wedding as her wedding consultant. I started planning this at the beginning of the year and am so overjoyed that I am actually getting experience in the field of my dream job.
Today I bought some wedding books at the local bookstore and have been scouring them for every last detail about wedding planning. I hope this experience teaches me a lot for the event management world!!
Until the next pit stop on my road to the real world,
Coral
