I have been having so much fun at these events and I am learning loads! My bosses are giving me tons of tips and tricks while planning and executing these events. Spring semester of school is over and I am now taking one class over the summer! I have 3 more classes to take and then it is graduation time!!! Time is flying by and I have so many mixed emotions. I am excited to graduate and start my life, but I don't want my college lifestyle to end!

For my internship, I have been writing blogs, handling the social media and helping them research ideas for brides! I have recently taken on my own bride! Pics to come later from our visit to her venue! She was looking for someone studying events and I decided to help her for some more experience! I honestly can’t get enough of weddings and events; I wake up every day wanting to go into the office, attend as many meetings as I can and researching the internet and magazines for creative ideas.

I hope you enjoy some of these pics from the weddings I have done so far for my internship! Pics of more of my life are on their way!!!

My first EVENT!!!

Last Thursday was my first event with Charmed Weddings! I had an amazing time and truly loved helping decorate this event! It was a long day, but I loved every second of it. I met my bosses at 1230 at their office so we could carpool all the way to Tarpon Bay in Marco Island. The venue was at Tarpon Bay on the beach that had a beautiful Floridian feel to it. We got started right away with decorations and the set up! I helped pick out the centerpieces two days before so I was super-excited to see how they turned out! The whole day the clouds were building and creating a dark ominous feeling over the whole beach. Nobody was going to rain on my parade and so we kept on decorating praying the clouds would break-up. Right before people started to get there, the clouds finally drifted and the party atmosphere was completed by the stunning sunset on the water.  Once the decorations were in place, the guests started to arrive and The Charmed Girls and I started our Photo booth for the guests. The party-goers were good sports and dressed up in the luau themed accessories we gave them and took gorgeous pictures with the beach in the background. We raced to get these pictures developed while the guests were still enjoying their meals so they could have a memory to take home with them. When we arrived back at the venue from developing the pictures the fire dancing performers had already started and the guests were in awe! This was the first time I had ever seen a fire dancer and I was impressed myself! At the end of the event their were shouts and praise of how this was the best event they have attended!
It felt so amazing to know that I helped create this amazing experience for someone. Coordinating events is creating experiences and memories that people will remember for a life-time. I feel like I have taken the right path in my career life by interning at an events coordinating company! I want to create these experiences for people through planning!

"I DO...to an internship!"

Guess What??? I had an interview for an internship...and got the job!!!!! Going to school events pays off. I met one of the owners at the sponsored event that the FPRA club hosted. My new internship is at Charmed Weddings located in Ft Myers, Fl. I am ecstatic knowing that every day I go into my internship I get to do what I love! I get to help plan, throw in some creative and innovative ideas, and I get course credit for doing it. The ideas of the experiences that await me in this industry are beyond imaginable. In my interview they asked me to describe different wedding styles and even my own style. I replied that I had a very traditional style with a flair of creativeness. They also asked me if I have ever thought of my own wedding and I responded way too quickly with “Of course I have!” The women who own the company are the nicest people I have ever met and I am looking forward to learning great tips, tricks and ideas from them on how to plan not only weddings but major events.
In 9th grade I had to write a report on what I wanted to do when I got older. We all have this report some time or another in grade school and what we turn out to be is most often not what we wrote about when we were younger. Well when I wrote my report I wanted to be a wedding planner. At the age of 14, I knew I wanted to create lasting memories for brides by coordinating their special day. This is the perfect pit stop on the road to my real world!

Until the next pit stop on my road to the real world,

The First Step

Two days ago I made the first step on my road to the real world! I put my two-weeks notice in at my part-time job so I could start concentrating on internships and graduating. Well, this did not go over so well at work. Apparently they were about to promote me right after I had put my notice in. But I am that type of person that when I get a feeling, I stick to it and I had a feeling that I just wasn't meant to work there anymore.

Now that I am part-time jobless, I decided it was a good time to update the good old resume. A day later and major headache, I had a rough draft of my new resume ready and I was feeling pretty good about myself and my accomplishments in life. So I decided to venture out to an event one of the organizations I belong to was hosting.
The FPRA (Florida Public Relations Association) student chapter at FGCU  had a panelist of professionals from the real world of PR come and answer our questions. I was super-excited that there was going to be a wedding consultant on the panel and I mainly came for that reason. The panelist consisted of the wedding consultant who owned her own business, two employees from Gulfshore magazine (the marketing director and the Editor), as well as a marketing professional from Saks 5th Ave. They talked about internships and how they got theirs and where they were at. They spoke to us about not backing down when told you did something wrong. They even told us about internship opportunities their companies had available.
I raced to the front to pick up business cards and spoke with each of the panelists to get a feel for them and if I was interested in applying for some of the internships they offered. Well- OF COURSE I WAS!!!!
In the next couple days I will send off my resume to them, cross my fingers that one of them loves me and my accomplishments as much as I do and calls me back for an interview!!!

In the meantime I will be busy planning my friend Brianne's wedding as her wedding consultant. I started planning this at the beginning of the year and am so overjoyed that I am actually getting experience in the field of my dream job.
Today I bought some wedding books at the local bookstore and have been scouring them for every last detail about wedding planning. I hope this experience teaches me a lot for the event management world!!

Until the next pit stop on my road to the real world,
